OLDGWR - Did "Gone with the Wind" Get It Right? A Look at the Houses, Interiors, and Furnishings
Course Description
If you love Gone with the Wind and historic design, this course is for you! Using photographs from the movie, books, and other sources, we will look at the interiors and furnishings at Tara, Twelve Oaks, and the Atlanta homes of Aunt Pitty Pat and Scarlett and Rhett. Our journey starts with a discussion of how the spaces and décor in each house supported the scenes taking place in them; conveyed the status and/or personalities of the characters; and fit into Director David Selznek’s vision of beauty and accuracy. We also will compare GWTW interiors to fashionable styles of the Antebellum and Early Victorian periods and 1930s ideas about homes in the past. By the end of the class, we will be able to answer the course question, did Gone with the Wind get the interiors right?
