Course Description

Who hasn't been in this situation: you've just been asked what you thought about the movie and could only say that you liked it or didn't? In this class, we will learn how to discuss film at a more critical level. We will discuss things like symbolism, lighting, soundtrack, emotion, etc. To better understand these aspects of film, we will discuss 6 films (1 film/session): Les Miserable (2012), Australia (2008), The Personal History of David Copperfield (2019), Forrest Gump (1994), Bend it Like Beckham (2002), and E.T. (1982).

Required Supplies: The listed films will need to be accessed. Many can be rented or purchased on Amazon’s Prime Video or via various subscription services like HBOMAX. There is an open-source textbook on film viewing that I will distribute a link for.
