Course Description

This class is for anyone who loves or is curious about European and American classical music. Examples with round-table discussions will explore what it is about music that we like (or don’t like) and why music stirs up memories and emotions. We will discover how composers use specific musical elements and characteristics to evoke emotional reactions and discuss the interesting stories and backgrounds of individual pieces. Each class following the introductory class will focus on a particular musical genre. Within each class there will be many musical examples to illustrate concepts and ideas and stimulate discussion.
