Course Description

This course provides a practical, real-world look at the history of environmental management in industry and government. Drawing from firsthand experience in the petrochemical and power industries, as well as work with the EPA during Hurricane Katrina and Rita recovery efforts, the course explains how environmental regulations and technologies have changed over time. Participants will learn how advances in technology improved the control and cleanup of hazardous waste, air pollution, wastewater contamination, and Superfund sites. The course will also explore the often misunderstood topics of underground waste injection and carbon dioxide storage, using real examples from the permitting and regulation of these facilities. Designed for a general audience, the course aims to make complex environmental issues easier to understand. Type: Discussion and lecture.
