POLDC - Developing Learning Experiences

Course Description

Developing Learning Experiences is a fully online, self-paced professional development course for educators, trainers, and learning professionals who want to design engaging learning experiences that are accessible and inclusive from the start. In this course, you will explore how to evaluate learning materials for accessibility, apply effective visual and multimedia design principles, select appropriate tools and technologies, and create active learning activities that encourage participation and interaction. Through hands-on, workplace-relevant activities and authentic design challenges, you will practice making user centered design decisions while building practical skills in learning experience design, inclusive and accessible design, and educational technology evaluation. By the end of the course, you will design a complete learning experience that integrates accessibility, engagement, and usability, preparing you to apply these career ready skills in instructional design, training, and other roles where creating meaningful learning experiences matters.

By the end of the course, students will be able to: 

• Evaluate course materials for accessibility and inclusion barriers using checklists, guidelines, and tools. 

• Select appropriate tools and technologies for course development that support accessibility, engagement, and instructional and stakeholder needs. 

• Apply visual course design principles (color, typography, composition) to create effective, inclusive materials. 

• Develop accessible multimedia learning resources, leveraging AI tools for efficiency. 

• Create technology-enhanced active learning activities that promote engagement, practice, and meaningful interaction, aligned with course and stakeholder goals.
