POGFA - AI Literacy Essentials
Course Description
This course is free of charge.
AI Literacy Essentials helps learners build a practical foundation for understanding and using artificial intelligence responsibly. Through five self-paced modules, learners explore how AI systems work, where they show up in everyday life, what ethical and academic concerns they raise, how to verify AI-generated information, and how to use AI tools productively without letting them replace human judgment.
The course introduces the foundations of artificial intelligence — how modern AI systems and large language models actually work, their ethical and societal impacts, academic integrity considerations, information literacy in an AI-driven world, and practical skills for using AI responsibly in learning and work. Learners complete short readings, videos, and self-check activities designed to build confidence and transferable skills.
Across five modules, learners will:
- Explore the foundations of AI — what AI is (and isn't), how large language models generate responses, and where AI already shows up in daily life.
- Examine the ethical and societal considerations of AI use, including privacy, bias, and transparency.
- Build clarity around academic integrity — when and how AI can be used appropriately in coursework, and how to cite AI tools correctly.
- Strengthen information literacy skills to verify AI-generated content and recognize misinformation, hallucinations, and synthetic media.
- Apply practical AI skills for learning and work, from prompting fundamentals to using AI as a productivity tool — without losing sight of core skills.
