Course Description

This course examines the historical development of the U.S. Supreme Court and its jurisprudence, emphasizing how political change over time shaped the Court’s composition and decisions. It covers the period from the ratification of the Constitution up to the New Deal era. Rather than focusing primarily on the detailed legal reasoning of individual cases, the course explores what those cases reveal about the evolution of the Court’s political culture and judicial philosophy.
