Course Description

This course discusses the two different types of property and the rights, duties and responsibilities that derive from ownership of each.  Students will learn the various property description techniques used  and be introduced to a basic description of surveying. Students will also learn the mechanics of preparing real estate contracts and an introduction to the general law of contracts as it applies to real estate transactions.  The basic provisions of a mortgage and common clauses found therein, as well as leasehold interests and the laws applicable to leases will also be discussed.

Prerequisites

This course is an elective in the Paralegal Studies Certificate Program. Students should have completed or be currently enrolled in the four core courses of the program before enrolling in this course.
